“VN No. 29 Sex Special, boobs or ass?” has become cover of the year at the 2011 Mercurs.
It was designed by mister cover junkie Jaap Biemans.
From 2000 to 2019, I worked for Vrij Nederland.
This I now do as a freelancer.
First as scan operator and lithographer where I dealt with scanning, cleaning and coloring of images and illustrations (aspect and transparency).
I often did this together with the photographer.
Pretty soon at VN I got the chance to teach myself photoshop.
My very first cover at Vrij Nederland was VN No. 47 – 2000, the demasqué of the euro. How beautiful that was when I held the printed version in my hands!
I also did a lot of image editing for print (including Micha Wertheim’s column), online, animation/video and advertising material.
Later I also became more involved in the design of websites/blogs, own publicity and job ads.
I took a Flash course for that.
In 2010 I started an interactive iPad edition, which I set up together with Guido van Lier.
Since 2011 I worked on a studio and we also did this work for other magazines of the publishing house.
I also worked on two anniversary issues of Vrij Nederland, IDFA, Crossing Border, NFF, Happy Chaos and the Kieskaravaan.
